NDT & Inspection Services
WSF offer various non-destructive testing and inspection services:
MPI is a method of testing for cracks and other defects in ferromagnetic material, such as carbon steel. The part to be inspected is sprayed with a contrast paint, magnetised, and then covered in a magnetic powder, or ink containing iron filings. Due to the magnetisation the powder/iron filings are drawn into the flaw highlighting any defects.
DPI is a method for detecting surface porosity or cracks in all types of metal. The part to be inspected is cleaned and coated with a dye which penetrates any flaws that may be present. The surface is wiped clean and coated with a white powder. The powder absorbs the dye held in the defects highlighting their location.
Visual inspection can detect a variety of surface flaws, including cracks, porosity and unfilled craters, regardless of subsequent inspection procedures. Dimensional variances, warping and appearance flaws, as well as weld size characteristics, can also be evaluated.
